SILVER JUBILEE YEAR- HAPPY NEWS

Dear Life Member,

Greetings from your Executive Committee members!

It is a matter of pride that during the SILVER JUBILEE YEAR of Indian Association for Canadian Studies an agreement between the Present Executive Committee and the past EC was reached to work collaboratively for the growth and development of Indian Association for Canadian Studies on 9 March at the Joint meeting of the two ECs held at Canadian High Commission in Delhi and the following resolution was passed:

 “Forgetting the past issues and differences, it is resolved that an understanding between the members of the present EC and that of old EC has been reached to work collaboratively for the growth and development of IACS." (see the Minutes also). 

The office bearers also took over all the records, Bank accounts and documents from the old EC on the same day. To further this process of strengthening the Association, I would like to apprise you of the most recent activities that we have conducted: 

SILVER JUBILEE CONFERENCE: 
• Silver Jubilee International Conference on: Multiculturalism and Its Discontent" was held at J N University in Jodhpur on January 29-31, 2011. During the Conference, a lapel badge commemorating Silver Jubilee and the print version of  Indian Journal of Canadian Studies were  released. A General Body Meeting was also held. A detailed report with photographs will soon be published in the next issue of e-newsletter and on our website at:  http://www.iacs-ind.com   

WEBSITE: 
 The website of Indian Association for Canadian Studies was launched at the First National Symposium cum Seminar held at Coimbatore in December 2010. It is a very active website with the following information: List of Members, E Newsletter, E Journal, and New Events and has links to ICCS, DEFAIT sponsored programmes, Study in Canada and many others. You are requested to visit it for the reports on Silver Jubilee Conference at Jodhpur for a report on Third National Symposium cum Seminar on " Super Partnerships: Canada and India" held at College, Devengere on December 26-27, 2011. 

 OUT REACH PROGRAMMES:
•Third National Symposium cum Seminar on " Super Partnerships: Canada and India" was held at College, Devengere on December 26-27, 2011 with 150 participants from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. 

PUBLICATIONS:
• Issue Number 28 of Newsletter was published and distributed free to about 800 members in October 2011.
• Volume Number XIV of Indian Journal of Canadian Studies was released and distributed free to all the members during the Silver Jubilee Conference at Jodhpur on 29 January 2012 

E-NEWSLETTER AND E-JOURNAL: 
• The Second issue of E-Newsletter is due for publishing shortly.
• The Second Issue of Electronic version of Indian Journal of Canadian Studies is due for publication soon. 

MEMBERSHIP: 
• A new Membership plan that had been closed for the past five years, was launched to enroll new members with focus on younger generation and increasing the spread of disciplines by including members from social sciences, sciences, technology and other areas that are not well represented by the current membership profiles. 
 • Four graduate students working on Canadian topics, and seven young professors from disciplines of computer science, chemistry, geography, economics, history, political science and communication were enrolled as Life Members during the Silver Jubilee Conference at Jodhpur.

 A REQUEST:  
 Now that IACS is fully revived, we request you to send a soft copy of the Report of your CS conference/seminar with a few photographs so that we can print them in the second issue of our Newsletter both in Electronic and Printed versions. We would appreciate if you could also send us items that cover the following for the Newsletter:
 • Significant Achievements of Members
• Publications of books on CS
• New CS courses taught
• CS events held recently
• PhD degrees awarded on Canadian/ Indo-Canadian topics
• Research Fellowships
 • Web postings: CS blogs/ Facebook/ Chat groups on CS
• Any other news of CS in India that may interest readers.
